The Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2024

We are delighted once again to partner with Lyme Regis Museum and to be a part of this year’s Lyme Regis Fossil Festival on June 8-9, 2024. There is an incredible programme and lots of free fun family activities over the course of the festival, including a Q&A session with our very own Dr Steve Etches, MBE. So, save the date and make plans to join us that weekend!

We look forward to welcoming fossil enthusiasts of all ages to our FREE, family friendly Festival here, on the Jurassic Coast, on the 8th & 9th June 2024. Visitors can look forward to Expert Talks, Exhibitions & Educational Activities, Guided Walks, Author Talks & Book Signings, Creative Workshops, Street Performances and much, much more!

The Etches Collection At The Fossil Festival

The Etches Collections friendly staff are on-hand at the festival to help you learn all about our amazing designated and accredited museum. You will discover how we bring to life our fabulous fossils with our incredible ‘stories from deep time’ where you can learn how the prehistoric predators of a bygone age lived and died in the Jurassic seas of Dorset some 152-157 million years ago. Our unique fossil specimens were all collected from the Kimmeridge Bay locality by one man, Dr. Steve Etches, MBE.

We will have a microscope with some of our collection and our famous fossil lucky dips! You can also learn about how to enter the Children’s Fossil Competition and win the chance to have your fossil on display at our museum for a whole year!

We are thrilled to announce that we will be bringing ‘Pliosaurus – The Discovery of a Monster’ to this year’s Fossil Festival. This is an exclusive documentary on the story behind the BBC's ‘Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster' and the screening will be accompanied by a live introduction and Q&A session with Dr. Steve Etches MBE and Chris Moore.

The documentary follows the incredible journey from first discovery by Philip Jacobs through to exhibition of the now Guinness World Record-winning pliosaur skull and features interviews with Dr. Steve Etches MBE, Chris Moore, Philip Jacobs and many more.
